Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is not a dark art – I’ll try and outline the jist here. The main trick is to create interesting content that also caters for the needs of Google… In this content you need to target the same keywords you want to rank for, but you can’t just add your keywords like SEO Surrey or Web Design Surrey or SEO Company Surrey – well not unless you cheekily use it demonstrate a point!

The fact is, Google just read that last sentance and noted that the word SEO Surrey and it’s derivatives are popping up a lot. It then assigns the keywords SEO Surrey, Web Design Surrey and SEO Company Surrey to this page. That’s on page optimisation done. We’ve assigned these keywords to this page and made sure the content is unique and contains these keywords. The next step is to make sure all sorts of links point to this page and ideally with the same keywords (and from similiar sites). So for example we would find another Search Engine Optimisation site (but not our direct competition) and ask them to link to us with the keyword SEO Surrey or we might go on twitter and make sure there are links that say Web Design Surrey.

So we are cheating and making it look like there are lots of organic interest from relevant websites. That way Google can pin the right keyword to this site. SEO is not an automated process but a strategy that takes time and effort – we’ve tried to outline the basics here – we hope you didn’t fall asleep!

We believe that you should build a website with Google in mind first and each page should have a keyword strategy assigned to it. It’s then the creative part to make sure you’re pages read well to people as well as Google…
